About me:
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) have been practicing as a licensed professional for over 30 years.
I have a Masters in Counseling Psychology obtained from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon and was licensed to practice in Oregon. I moved to NH in 1999 and have been licensed in this state since that time.
I am an active member of the NH Mental Health Counseling Association. I have experience working in inpatient and partial hospital settings, community mental health centers and private practices. I have spent over 17 years with a regional hospital system in Southern NH in both the psychology practice and co-located in a medical practice.
Training and experience:
I have been trained in a variety of treatment modalities but most importantly I am known for creating a safe and trusting environment for clients to explore thoughts, feelings and experiences that contribute to the struggles presented.
I use an eclectic approach that allows for flexibility with modalities identified as useful for symptoms and issues. Some of these modalities might include CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), DBT skills (dialectical behavioral therapy), mindfulness and mindfulness-based stress reduction, motivational interviewing and solution focused treatment. I have also been trained in psychodynamic theories.
Areas of treatment:
-
depression/mood disorders
-
anxiety/panic disorders
-
binge eating disorder/compulsive overeating/body image disturbance
-
chronic and acute stress
-
psychological impact of chronic or recently diagnosed medical conditions
-
self-esteem challenges, negative self-talk, 'over-thinking'
-
work burn-out
- I do not treat active substance abuse disorders
a word about trauma:
a client with active post traumatic stress syndrome often requires specialized treatment to relieve the most troublesome symptoms.
I am not a trauma specialist however over my years of practice a majority of clients have had trauma in their lives. If you have experienced trauma, I am able to support you and help you understand the impact of trauma on your life if this is an identified treatment goal.
If we decide in the course of treatment that a trauma specialist is what can be most effective, I will continue to work with you until you are able to be scheduled with a specialist.
